About the book

How does climate change influences gender dynamics? Why do women remain burdened by climate stress despite being central to adaptation and sustainability efforts? What interventions in finance, land ownership, energy access, can strengthen their influence over climate action?

Gendering Climate Futures: Power, Finance, and Justice in a Warming World examines these questions through a South Asian lens, with a particular focus on India. The volume explores how women experience climate stress, critiques the limitations of current climate finance frameworks, and identifies pathways for meaningful participation in decision-making. It also highlights women’s leadership in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, entrepreneurship, and community institutions, demonstrating their critical role in driving climate resilience and just transitions.

The book argues that women are neither passive victims nor mere instruments of climate policy. Rather, they are already leading adaptation efforts, often without adequate recognition, resources, or representation. This volume offers a compelling framework for understanding climate justice through the connected questions of land, labour, capital, and voice.
