About the Book
At a time when the accelerating climate crisis is reshaping global development pathways, this edited volume brings together diverse perspectives from the Global South to examine the complex intersections of climate change, development, energy transitions, and social justice. While the impacts of climate change are global, they are profoundly unequal, disproportionately affecting developing economies that have contributed the least to historical greenhouse gas emissions yet remain the most vulnerable to climate risks. For countries of the Global South, climate action cannot be separated from the pressing developmental imperatives of poverty alleviation, energy access, industrialisation, livelihood security, and economic growth.
Against this backdrop, the volume seeks to move beyond narrow and mitigation centric narratives by presenting a holistic, interdisciplinary, and equity-driven understanding of climate governance, adaptation, resilience, and sustainable transitions. Drawing together contributions from scholars, practitioners, and policy experts, the book critically engages with themes such as global climate governance and finance, climate justice, mitigation pathways, systemic energy transitions, adaptation strategies, disaster-resilient infrastructure, gendered vulnerabilities, water governance, and community-led responses to climate change. Through evidence-based analysis, grounded case studies, and policy-oriented insights, the chapters collectively explore how climate responses in the Global South are shaped by institutional realities, developmental priorities, and socioeconomic inequalities.
The volume highlights the urgent need for context-specific, inclusive, and justice oriented approaches that recognise the differentiated capacities and responsibilities of nations while amplifying voices and experiences from Global South.
