Strengthenning INDIA-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation in the INDO-PACIFIC

The conference is being organised in the context of the Prime Minister of India’s announcement designating 2026 as the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation, which highlighted the growing centrality of the maritime domain in India-ASEAN relations. However, the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz earlier this year has resurfaced the vulnerabilities of sea-lane security, energy supplies, and global supply-chain resilience. This has reinforced the need for India and ASEAN member states to deepen cooperation on maritime security and build more resilient supply chains across the Indo-Pacific. Therefore, the conference will examine broader economic ties, maritime security, regional cooperation mechanisms, and emerging strategic challenges.
