The developments in India’s immediate neighborhood has a direct bearing on India's Northeastern region, and hence the success of the Act East policy.
The benefits that the Northeastern region can accrue from the Act East Policy will depend on how much and how fast inter-regional and inter-regional connectivity can be improved, to enhance cross-border and domestic connectivity for economic integration, regional stability, and market expansion. Moreover, the true import of connectivity can be also realised with last mile connectivity, leading to inclusive access to growth and prosperity.
Tourism offers high-impact economic and cultural dividends but needs sustainable, well-managed growth to avoid ecological and social strain. Tourism also requires better connectivity and sustainable infrastructure.
Projects undertaken in the Northeast under the Act East policy require a Community driven approach. Community-led initiatives improve policy legitimacy and sustainability by embedding local knowledge, ownership, and social resilience.
