High-Level Policy Roundtable on Coal Gasification
The High-Level Policy Roundtable on Coal Gasification, jointly organised by Chintan Research Foundation (CRF) and the Ashoka Centre for a People-centric Energy Transition (ACPET), will convene policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts in New Delhi on 20 February 2026. The discussion is situated within India’s evolving energy transition, where coal is projected to remain central to electricity generation even as renewable capacity expands. Background Note and Agenda
The roundtable will examine the technological, financial, and policy challenges associated with advancing coal gasification under the National Coal Gasification Mission, which targets 100 million tonnes of gasification capacity by 2030. It will also assess the broader economic, environmental, and infrastructure implications of clean coal pathways for achieving Viksit Bharat 2047 and Net Zero 2070. Background Note and Agenda
Through keynote addresses, expert interventions, and a moderated discussion, the event aims to generate actionable insights and collaborative strategies to support a balanced, low-carbon, and development-oriented energy transition in India.
