Navigating Non-Tariff Measures: Strengthening India's Trade Strategy
Under the Viksit Bharat vision, India aims to expand its global merchandise export share from 1.8% in 2024 to 10% by 2047. However, as global tariffs drop to historic lows, non-tariff measures (NTMs) such as stringent Sanitary and Phytosanitary standards (SPS) and complex Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) have become the primary hurdle for Indian exporters, particularly MSMEs, to attain competitiveness.
To address these critical behind-the-border trade constraints, Chintan Research Foundation is organising a roundtable discussion on Navigating Non-Tariff Measures: Strengthening India's Trade Strategy, on 20th August 2026 at the CRF Office Boardroom, New Delhi.
The event will bring together policymakers, trade experts, researchers, and industry leaders to deliberate on themes, including NTM data accessibility, Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs), domestic quality infrastructure, and trade digitisation. The conclave seeks to formulate actionable strategies to reduce compliance costs, bolster competitiveness, and drive India's goal of achieving $2 trillion in exports by 2030.
