Reimagining India's Energy Transition
The Centre for Climate Change and Energy Transition (CCET), Chintan Research Foundation (CRF), in collaboration with the Ashoka Centre for People-Centric Energy Transition (ACPET), will organise a high-level discussion on “Reimagining India’s Energy Transition: The Role of Coal-to-Chemicals and Hydrogen Pathways” at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event will examine how coal can be repositioned from a conventional fuel to a strategic feedstock through gasification, hydrogen production, and coal-to-chemicals pathways. Bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts, the discussions will explore India’s coal gasification targets, CCUS integration, lifecycle emissions, fertiliser security, and industrial competitiveness. The two-panel format will cover both upstream gasification challenges and downstream production of hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, and specialty chemicals. The deliberations will aim to highlight the need for a diversified, pragmatic, and resource-secure energy transition strategy that balances decarbonisation goals with energy security, industrial growth, and import substitution in an increasingly volatile global energy landscape.
